April 2011

Dear friends,

It has been some time since my last newsletter, the reason being a simple one - I was hard at work in my studio. Here are a couple of things that kept me busy:

- This winter I concentrated on creating larger etchings and finishing a long standing "Ornithology" project (see below). There were ups and downs and mistakes along the way, but it was the happiest creative time in the studio I ever had.
- I expanded my practice into silkscreen printing which should now allow me to design both ambitious projects and also a range of competitively priced work.
- I was working hard to improve the studio and reduce the amount of chemicals in my daily printing and happy to report I have now given up using spirits, a small thing that will make my practice safer and more stable, which in return will result in a less stressed and more productive artist!
- I can't wait to return to painting during June/July! And was thinking about new ideas and already have a few enquiries regarding future paintings. If you would like to discuss any potential commission - now is the perfect time. Please contact me in April/May or during my Open Studio event and I will be more than happy to have a chat.

And finally after the long working winter in my South London Studio I am happy to present new work in the series of events listed below. The next few months will be hectic but present great opportunities. I hope that you will have the chance to share some of them with me.

WORK IN PROGRESS
COMING SOON:

"Ornithology" Handbound Folio

After 3 years of work all 36 images are now complete, printed on heavy cotton paper, hand sewn and leather bound, complete with its own hot foiled slip case. I am in the final stages of working with a professional bookbinder to create an extremely limited edition collector's item featuring a unique semi transparent parchment cover.
Individual images are still available to buy separately.

New Screenprints -
Coming May 2011

Following a successful trialling of screenprinting techniques at East London Printmakers I am working on a series of new images. I have created a series of silkscreens called "Coordinate System" that follows up a successful theme of etchings on transparent Japanese papers. Using silkscreens I was able to print on even thinner papers, and the results are stunning!
Over the coming months I intend to fully leverage the newly discovered techniques to the full.

New South East London
Print Studio
Coming August 2011

A new fully fitted print studio is being developed as part of our studio site in Woolwich. With over 4,000sqft it will be amongst the largest print spaces in London and will cater for the range of print techniques. I am planning to both print there and also run short courses in hybrid/experimental printmaking and silkscreen printing from autumn 2011 (tba)
